Golden Eagles Drop Series Finale To Trailblazers

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's baseball team struggled Sunday in the final game of the Cal State LA Crossover Tournament.

The Golden Eagles dropped the finale to unbeaten Dixie State, 15-2, at Reeder Field. Cal State LA (1-3) won its opening game, but dropped the last three against Northwest Nazarene and Dixie State (7-0).

Ryan Lewis had a pair of hits and one RBI for the Golden Eagles, while Travis Burleson drove in the other Cal State LA run. Tyler Odekirk singled and scored a run.

Dixie State collected 15 hits and also benefited from five Cal State LA errors. The miscues led to seven unearned runs.

Garrett Boyce went five innings for the Golden Eagles and allowed five hits and five runs, although only one was earned. Brent Jacques pitched a scorless inning of relief for the Golden Eagles.

Tevita Gerber allowed only two hits and one run over five innings for Dixie State and improved to 2-0. He walked one and struck out six.

Jake Engel and Tyler Hollow had three hits each for the Trailblazers, while Cade Spurlin and Jake Schulz had home runs.

The Golden Eagles made it a 2-1 game in the third inning on a two-out single by Lewis that drove in Michael Tillman. Cal State LA's other run came in the sixth inning when Odekirk doubled and scored on a grounder by Burleson.

Cal State LA will return to action on Friday at home with the opener of a four-game California Collegiate Athletic Association series against Cal State Monterey Bay.
