LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team found itself in a tremendous battle Wednesday that took nearly four hours to decide.
The Golden Eagles dropped the doubles points and split the six singles contests and fell to Concordia, 4-3, at the Cal State LA Tennis Complex. Cal State LA (3-3) dropped its second straight match.
The contest on Wednesday was a thriller. Cal State LA trailed, 3-2, with a pair of matches in three-set clashes. 
Chelsey Ruiz brought the Golden Eagles even with a well-played 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles over Concordia's Samantha Schuster. The match then came down to an outstanding contest at No. 3 singles, where Concordia's Lisa Suzuki outlasted Cal State LA's 
Berta Acero Garcia, 0-6, 7-6, 6-4. Acero Garcia battled back from 0-3 down in the third set to even it at 4-4, but Suzuki won the last two games to take the match.
Cal State LA also got wins from 
Luciana Di Laura, who beat Taylor Lau at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0, and 
Mariko Sagara, who beat Halle Van Natta, 6-1, 7-6, at No. 6 singles.
The Golden Eagles struggled in doubles, where Amanda Scheider and Ruiz fell to Ghazal Pakbaten and Johanna Keeline at No. 2 doubles, 6-3 and Acero Garcia and Sagara lost at No. 3 doubles, 6-1. 
Isabella Lopez and Di Laura were trailing at No. 1 doubles, 5-3, when the doubles point was clinched for Concordia.
Cal State LA will return to action on Thursday in a match against Azusa Pacific that was originally scheduled for Feb. 14 but was postponed by rain. Cal State LA's next home match is Saturday, March 2, against UC San Diego at noon.
