LOS ANGELES –
Isabelle Harvey, who has led Cal State LA's women's soccer program to some historic heights, has announced she will be leaving the program to return home to Canada to be closer to her family.
Harvey led the Golden Eagles to one of the best seasons in program history in 2014 and guided them into the California Collegiate Athletic Association tournament for six straight seasons. She leaves with a record of 59-35-19 overall at Cal State LA and a 42-21-13 in conference play in her second stint at the university. She was also an assistant coach and interim head coach for the men's and women's programs at Cal State LA from 2001-04.
"Working at Cal State LA has been the highlight of my career," Harvey said. "I am so thankful for the support that the staff has given me and my teams were an absolute joy to coach. I will remember all of my friends and acquaintances here at Cal State LA fondly and will miss everyone terribly! The highlight of Harvey's outstanding Cal State LA tenure came in 2014 when she guided the Golden Eagles to a program-best national end-of-the-year ranking of No. 5 and a 16-2-3 overall record. Cal State LA captured the CCAA regular-season and tournament titles and hosted the first two rounds of the NCAA playoffs.
The Golden Eagles set new program records for most shutouts (13), fewest goals allowed (10), consecutive wins (8) and longest unbeaten streak (14). Harvey was named the CCAA Coach of the Year and became the first coach in program history to be named the West Region Coach of the Year.
Cal State LA also had its first CoSIDA Academic All-American and first-ever first-team All-America selection in Heather Williams.
"What a year that was!" Harvey said. "The pride I felt in 2014 was incredible, not only for me, but also my team that gave every effort and took this program to new heights. So many great memories that will follow me wherever I go."
In her most recent stint at Cal State LA, the Golden Eagles collected 36 All-CCAA, 12 All-West Region and three All-America awards. That includes two CCAA Player of the Year awards, one Newcomer of the Year award and one Freshman of the Year award.
"I have known Isabelle since she was coming out of high school as a recruit. She was an amazing player who went on to have a brilliant coaching career," Cal State LA Executive Director of Athletics
Dr. Daryl Gross said. "We are so appreciative of everything she has done for our program as she has built a sustainable winning culture for Cal State LA while graduating our student-athletes. We wish her the best and hope going forward we can try to match her contrubitions."
Prior to returning to Cal State LA, Harvey had a 59-55-17 record at Cal Poly Pomona in seven seasons.
She was a sensational college player at USC and was inducted into the school's Hall of Fame in 2015.She was the Pac-10 Player of the Year in 1998 and still holds school records for most goals, assists, game-winning goals and points. She is the only player in the program's history to earn All-America honors all four seasons at USC. She was the team MVP three times and a team captain during her final three years.
Harvey will be returning to Quebec, where she enjoyed a legendary playing career. She was honored by Quebec as its Athlete of the Century and presented with the Centennial Medal as one of the five leading figures to influence the development of soccer in the region with Harvey being recognized as a player.
In 2015, Harvey, as part of the 1998 Canadian National Team, was inducted into the Canadian Soccer Hall of Fame and was also honored with a Women of Influence Award in Estrie Region.
She started all three games for the Canadian National Team at the 1999 World Cup and registered two assists. She currently ranks 13
th in Canadian history with 44 international caps. She also played for Ajax Fram, a semi-pro team, which won national championships from 2001-04.
Harvey was inducted into the Quebec Soccer Hall of Fame in 2016.
She leaves Cal State LA after guiding the Golden Eagles to a 10-6-2 in 2018 and a sixth straight trip to the CCAA Tournament.
Erik Garcia, the top assistant coach at Cal State LA during Harvey's recent six-year tenure, has been named the Interim Head Coach, Gross said.
