Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Golden Eagles Bounce Back With Shutout Win

FRESNO -- Cal State LA's women's soccer team got a big game from a newcomer and another stout defensive effort to bounce back with a 2-0 win over Fresno Pacific.

Ashtyn Bracamonte scored both goals in a 16-minute stretch of the second half, while Adriana Maldonado made five saves and recorded her program-record 24th career shutout. Cal State LA (3-1) posted its third shutout of the season and has allowed only one goal in its first four games.

Cal State LA was outshot in the game, 14-10, but surrendered only five shots in the second half, none of them on goal. Maldonado made all five of her saves in the first half. The Golden Eagles had a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

The Golden Eagles had a pair of good chances in the opening moments of the game, but Irma Pinzon had an attempt cleared away by the defensive and a follow-up by Paulina Chaidez was saved.

After a scoreless first half, Bracamonte wasted little time getting the Golden Eagles on the board in the second period. She dribbled around a defender and unleashed a spectacular shot from just outside the box in the 48th minute to give Cal State LA the lead.

Then, in the 64th minute, she replicated the first goal by turning around and firing a beautiful shot into the goal from the top of the box to make it 2-0.

Bracamonte had a team-high three shots in the game, while Pinzon, Chaidez, Nicolette Elliott, Tatiana Zuvic, Leslie Ramirez, Kimberly Mendez and Erika Lizarraga had one shot each.

Cal State LA will begin California Collegiate Athletic Association play on Friday with a match at Chico State.
