SAN FRANCISCO -- Cal State LA's men's soccer team has put in more than its fair share of work over the last eight days and that stretch ended with a well-played draw in San Francisco on Friday.
The Golden Eagles, playing their fourth game in eight days, battled to a 0-0 tie with San Francisco State in a California Collegiate Athletic Association match at Cox Stadium. Cal State LA (8-1-1, 5-0-1 CCAA) leads the conference with 16 points after recording its fifth shutout in six CCAA games and its eighth in 10 games this season.
Cal State LA had a 15-11 advantage in shots and an 8-1 edge in corner kicks. The Golden Eagles had the edge in possession as well and San Francisco State (4-2-3, 1-2-2 CCAA) had 11 fouls to four for the Golden Eagles.
Alexander Brems made four saves for the Golden Eagles, including a big stop on San Francisco State's Brandt Dixon in the first overtime period.
Carlos Zarate had a good look for the Golden Eagles in the second overtime sail wide from the top of the circle and
Leonardo Nogueira and
Tim Klefisch had bids in the extra period saved by San Francisco State goalkeeper Peter Swinkels. Those were two of his eight saves in the game.
The Golden Eagles played an outstanding first half and had a 7-3 advantage in shots and a 5-0 edge in corner kicks. Cal State LA also had a big push in the second overtime period, enjoying a 3-0 edge in shots and a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Klefisch and Nogueira had three shots each for the Golden Eagles, while Zarate and
Daniel Simonis had two shots each.
Cal State LA will return to action on Thursday with a home game against Cal State East Bay at 7 p.m.
