TORONTO -- Cal State LA graduate
Khallifah Rosser had another top finish Sunday at a major track and field competition.
Rosser, representing the United States, finished third and earned a bronze medal in the 400-meter hurdles on the final day of the North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Championships at the Varsity Stadium in Toronto. Rosser was closing fast at the end and turned in another outstanding performance at the end of a very long track and field season.
Kyron McMaster of the British Virgin Islands won the race in 48.18 and Annsert Whyte of Jamaica was second in 48.91. Rosser took third in 49.13, Shawn Rowe of Jamaica was fourth in 49.40 and T.J. Holmes of the United States was fifth in 49.79.
Rosser, running in the fourth lane after an impressive second-place showing in his semi-final heat on Friday, was almost able to run down Whyte for second. Whyte, running in an outside lane, actually had a pretty good lead after the last hurdle, but McMaster was able to catch him and then pull away down the stretch. Rosser, too, had a fantastic effort down the stretch for his third-place finish.
It was the second consecutive third-place finish in the 400 hurdles at a major competition for Rosser. The 2016 NCAA Division II champion qualified for the NACAC meet after finishing third at the 2018 USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships with a new personal best time of 48.65 in June. That time was faster than the 49.04 he ran while winning the 2016 NCAA championship.
Rosser previously competed in the NACAC Under-23 Championships in 2016 in San Salvador, El Salvador. He also ran the third leg on a winning United States 4x400 relay team.
Rosser graduated from Cal State LA in May with a double major after a tremendous athletic career. He was named the Frank J. Candida Award winner for the athletic department's Male Athlete of the Year for a second time in May. Rosser holds Cal State LA records in the 400 hurdles and 400 meters.
