SURPRISE, ARIZ. -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team rebounded nicely in its second and final match at the PacWest Conference Championships.
The Golden Eagles got off to a quick start and never looked back in a 5-1 win over Dixie State in a consolation match on Thursday. Cal State LA (8-14) had dropped a heartbreaking 5-4 decision to Dominican on Wednesday, but took two of the three doubles points and captured three singles contests to clinch the match.
Elizaveta Sokolova and
Chelsey Ruiz got the Golden Eagles off to a good start with an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles over Kyra Harames and Sabrina Longson and
Isabella Lopez and
Amanda Schneider picked up a second point at No. 1 doubles with an 8-5 win over Lacey Hancock and Yolena Carlon.
Cal State LA then wrapped up the match by taking all three singles matches that were completed. Lopez beat Longson, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 3 singles,
Mariko Sagara beat Hina Goldsmith, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4 singles and Ruiz beat McKelle Burnett at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-2.
Sokolova had a 6-1, 5-2 lead in her match at No. 1 singles when play stopped because Cal State LA had the match clinched.
The match ended Cal State LA's season and marked the final appearance for the Golden Eagles' two seniors -
Elizaveta Sokolova and
Snezana Ivanovic.
