SAN RAFAEL -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team completed its three-match road trip with a win at Dominican University on Tuesday.
The Golden Eagles, with a makeshift lineup due to the injury to
Amanda Schneider on Monday, recorded a 7-2 win over the Penguins at the Castellucci Family Tennis Center. Cal State LA (7-9) went 2-1 on the trip with wins over Holy Names and Dominican and a loss to Sonoma State.
The Golden Eagles started well and claimed two of the three doubles points.
Isabella Lopez and
Luciana Di Laura moved up to the No. 1 doubles spot and picked up an 8-4 win over Rickimae Torres and Skyler Schaar.
Elizaveta Sokolova and
Mariko Sagara won at No. 2 doubles, 8-3, over Savannah Gray and Taylor Lim. Cal State LA's No. 3 doubles team of
Chelsey Ruiz and
Snezana Ivanovic was edged by Dominican's Kaitlyn Nguyen and Alex Wartenberg.
Sokolova had a short match at No. 1 singles when Schaar retired after trailing 5-0 in the opening set. Di Laura moved up to No. 2 singles and posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Torres. Ruiz won a tight match, 4-6, 6-0 (10-6) over Wartenberg at No. 4 singles, Sagara won in straight sets over Gray at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-4, and Ivanovic won in a close match at No. 6 singles over Lim, 6-4, 2-6 (10-8).
Cal State LA will return to action on Friday with a home match against No. 1 Hawaii Pacific at 1:30 p.m.
