ROHNERT PARK -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team battled while not at full strength Monday in a tight match against Sonoma State.
The Golden Eagles lost No. 2 singles player
Amanda Schneider to injury in doubles and ultimately fell to the Seawolves, 6-3, in Rohnert Park. Cal State LA (6-9) has split its first two matches on a three-match road swing.
Sonoma State (13-4) won two of the three doubles points and then captured four of the six singles contests.
Without Schneider in singles, the Golden Eagles had to move five of their six singles players up a spot.
Isabella Lopez, climbing from No. 4 to No. 3 singles, recorded a 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 win over Clarisa Colling, while
Chelsey Ruiz, moving up to No. 5 singles, posted a 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 win over Jenna DeTurk.
Luciana Di Laura, who moved up to No. 2 singles, had the tightest match of the day and fell in a supertiebreaker, 6-4, 5-7, 10-7.
Di Laura and Lopez picked up the doubles point for the Golden Eagles with an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles.
Elizaveta Sokolova and Schneider fell at No. 1 doubles, while
Mariko Sagara and Ruiz fell at No. 3 doubles. All three doubles matches were decided by 8-5 scores.
Cal State LA will conclude its trip with a match at Dominican on Tuesday.
