LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's men's basketball team entertained a large Homecoming crowd Thursday night with an exciting California Collegiate Athletic Association win.
The Golden Eagles were flying on all cylinders and posted an impressive 94-79 win over Stanislaus State in University Gym. Cal State LA (12-13, 8-12 CCAA) won its third straight game in one of its most complete and well-played games of the season. The Golden Eagles are now just one-half game behind eighth-place Cal State Dominguez Hills in the battle for a spot in the CCAA Championship Tournament.
Jihad Woods led five Golden Eagles in double figures with 19 points and six rebounds.
Sequan Walker had a strong game with 14 points,
Jalyn Pennie had 13 points and five rebounds and
Devin Means and
Elliott Smith had 12 points each.
Jaelen Ragsdale and Kaelen Mitchell had 14 points each for Stanislaus State (15-10, 10-9 CCAA), while Andy Cleaves had 12 points and Ty Davis had 10 points and seven rebounds.
Kenneth Cyprian had seven points and eight rebounds for the Golden Eagles.
Cal State LA shot 44.2 percent for the game (34-of-77) and hit 10-of-37 attempts from 3-point range. Stanislaus State shot 45.5 percent (30-of-66) and was 8-of-24 from 3-point range. The Warriors were 11-of-13 from the free-throw line, while the Golden Eagles were 16-of-23. Stanislaus State had a 42-33 rebounding edge, but committed 19 turnovers.
Cal State LA committed just five turnovers.
Stanislaus State led 36-32 with 4:45 remaining in the first half, but the Golden Eagles got a 3-pointer from
Sean Estes an a pair of free throws by Woods to take the lead. A dunk by Woods broke a 40-40 tie and a pair of free throws by Smith and a layup by Woods after a steal by Smith gave the Golden Eagles a 46-41 halftime lead.
Cal State LA played with great energy in the second half and led the entire way. The Golden Eagles used a game-deciding 15-0 run to extend a 64-60 lead to 79-60 with eight minutes to go. Back-to-back jumpers by Walker started the run and layups by Means, Cyprian and Woods made it 74-60. Another layup by Woods and a 3-pointer by
Sean Estes gave the Golden Eagles a 19-point lead.
The Golden Eagles took their biggest lead at 86-65 with 4:44 to go and led by double-digit margins the rest of the way.

Jalyn Pennie, in pregame ceremonies.
The Golden Eagles will return to action on Saturday with a non-conference game at Concordia.
