LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's men's soccer team returned to its winning ways Tuesday with a non-conference victory over Hawaii-Hilo.
The Golden Eagles got a penalty kick goal from
Kareem Salem late in the first half and made it stand up in a 1-0 win over the Vulcans Tuesday at Jesse Owens Track. Cal State LA (6-1) allowed only two shots in the game and recorded its fourth shutout of the season.
Cal State LA had a 22-2 advantage in shots and a 11-0 edge in corner kicks. Hawaii-Hilo goalkeeper Nick Williams made nine saves and the Vulcans played well defensively to keep it at a one-goal game.
Salem had a match-high four shots for the Golden Eagles, including the penalty kick that provided the margin of victory in the 44th minute.
Adrian Diaz was fouled in the box after making a dangerous run to give Cal State LA the penalty kick.

Jorge Orellana,
Hakon Laugsand and
Damian Roszczyk had two shots each for the Golden Eagles. Cal State LA had a 13-2 edge in shots in the opening half and a 9-0 advantage in the second half.
Steven Barrera made one save for his fourth shutout of the season and 12th of his Cal State LA career.
The Golden Eagles had the first prime scoring chance of the game, but Eberle's header off a corner kick from
Tim Klefisch hit the post in the 12th minute. Lindahl hit a post in the 25th minute with a hard shot from some distance.
Morten Bjoershol hit the post with a shot in the 53rd minute and
Hunter Hwang, who had just entered the game, had a header following a corner kick by
Rigoberto Maciel go off the post in the 83rd minute.
Cal State LA will return to conference play on Friday with a match against Cal State San Marcos at 7 p.m.
