SAN DIEGO -- Cal State LA's women's soccer team continued its challenging non-conference schedule with a hard-earned draw Tuesday.
The Golden Eagles got a game-tying goal in the 28th minute from
Ashli Villalobos a nd battled to a 1-1 tie with Point Loma at PLNU Soccer Field. Cal State LA (2-1-1) played into a second overtime period for the second time in eight days.Â
The Golden Eagles had a 10-7 edge in shots, although neither team had an attempt in either overtime period. The Golden Eagles had a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Adriana Maldonado made one save for the Golden Eagles, while Brianna Linnell had three saves for the Sea Lions (1-2-1).
Holly Abdelkader and
Paulina Chaidez had two shots each for Cal State LA.
The Sea Lions took a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute when Abbey Teagle scored on a breakaway with an assist from Ashlee Watkins.
Cal State LA, though, tied it up six minutes later when Villalobos headed in a cross from
Valerie Mares to tie it.
Cal State LA will open California Collegiate Athletic Association play on Friday at Cal State San Bernardino.
