Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Golden Eagles Start Fast And Beat The Coyotes

SAN BERNARDINO -- Cal State LA's women's soccer took control early and went on to an impressive win in the Golden Eagles' California Collegiate Athletic Association opener on Friday.

Two quick goals from leading scorer Paulina Chaidez gave the Golden Eagles an early lead and they recorded a 2-0 victory over the Coyotes on Premier Field. Cal State LA (3-1-1, 1-0 CCAA) had a 16-7 advantage in shots and played a strong defensive game throughout. Cal State LA allowed only two second-half shots to the Coyotes (2-3-1, 0-1 CCAA).

Cal State San Bernardino got seven saves from goalkeeper Destiny Collins and kept Cal State LA off the board on a pair of penalty kicks.

Chaidez, though, who recorded the program's first hat trick since 2014 in a 3-1 win over Fresno Pacific last Saturday, added two more goals on Friday. She now has six on the season.

Her first goal came in the 15th minute with an assist from Meranda Salazar. She took a pass from Salazar, sped down the left side of the field and fired in a shot toward the far post.

The second looked a lot like the first, only this time she got the terrific pass from Zarette Munoz-Aguilar and repeated the sequence of the first goal in the 18th minute.

Cal State LA's defense took it from there. Adriana Maldonado made two saves for her second shutout of the season and defenders Caitlyn Esposito, Jazmin Smith, Tatiana Zuvic, Valerie Mares and Danya Hart made the early goals stand up.

Chaidez had a match-high five shots, while Zuvic and Munoz-Aguilar had three each.

Cal State LA will return to action on Sunday with an 11:30 a.m. match at Cal Poly Pomona.
