Golden Eagles Post Second Straight Road Victory

HAYWARD -- Cal State LA's women's soccer team completed a perfect road trip, but it wasn't easy.

The Golden Eagles got a pair of first-half goals and made them stand up in a 2-1 win over Cal State East Bay Sunday in a California Collegiate Athletic Association contest. Cal State LA (6-2-2, 4-1-1 CCAA) now has 13 points in the CCAA race and sits in fourth place.

Paulina Chaidez had a leading role once again for the Golden Eagles, figuring in both goals on Sunday. She had the assist on a goal by Xochitl Estrada to open the scoring and she added her eighth goal of the season to give Cal State LA a 2-0 lead. Cal State East Bay (3-10, 1-7 CCAA) got its lone goal on a second-half penalty kick.

Adriana Maldonado had a strong game, recording seven saves.

Cal State East Bay had an 18-11 advantage in shots, including an 8-5 edge on shots on goal. After grabbing the 2-0 lead by halftime, the Golden Eagles were out-shot, 9-3, in the second half. The Pioneers also had a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

Estrada scored her first goal of the season in the 34th minute when she got to a rebound of a shot by Chaidez and knocked in the rebound to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead.

Then, just 33 seconds later, Chaidez got her eighth goal of the season when she got a pass from Adyson Willett, dribbled to the left of the goalkeeper, and fired a shot into an empty net.

Chaidez had four shots in the contest, while Ashli Villalobos had three shots and Meranda Salazar had two.

Cal State LA scored four goals on the trip to Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State East Bay and Chaidez was involved in all four. She assisted on both goals scored by Irma Pinzon on Friday in a 2-1 win over the Otters and she had a goal and an assist in the win over the Pioneers on Sunday.

Cal State LA will return to action on Wednesday with a road game at Cal State Dominguez Hills.
