Golden Eagles Settle For 1-1 Tie With Toros

CARSON -- Cal State LA's women's soccer team picked up another valuable point in California Collegiate Athletic Association play Wednesday night in a hard-earned draw at Cal State Dominguez Hills.

The Golden Eagles had a big edge in shots and corner kicks, but had to settle for a 1-1 tie with the Toros. Cal State LA (6-2-3, 4-1-2 CCAA) remains in fourth place in the conference standings with 14 points.

Meranda Salazar scored the only goal of the game for the Golden Eagles late in the first half. She curved in a corner kick that went off the goalkeeper and into the net for her first goal of the season.

Cal State LA had a 23-13 advantage in shots, including an 8-3 edge in the overtime periods. Cal State LA also had a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.

Paulina Chaidez, the leading scorer in the CCAA, didn't score in the game, but she was a major force throughout. She had a match-high nine shots, including five in the two overtime periods. One of her shots, late in the first overtime period, went off the crossbar and stayed out.

Zarette Munoz-Aguilar also had an active game, firing off six shots. She had a shot saved in the final minute of the first overtime period. Selena Cuara also got a late attempt that was blocked.

Cal State Dominguez Hills (3-7-1, 2-4-1 CCAA) got a game-tying goal from Sophie Litendahl in the 53rd minute off a free kick.

Adriana Maldonado and Stephanie Correa combined for five saves in the contest - two for Maldonado and three for Correa. Ruth-Maria Soto had eight saves for the Toros.

Salazar, Cuara and Tatiana Zuvic had two shots each for the Golden Eagles.

Cal State LA will return to action on Sunday with a home game against San Francisco State at 11:30 a.m.
