Golden Eagles Ride Defense To Road Win Over Otters

SEASIDE -- Cal State LA's men's soccer team, ranked No. 18 in the nation, used another stingy defensive effort to record an important California Collegiate Athletic Association road victory.

The Golden Eagles (9-1-1, 3-1-1 CCAA) allowed only five shots in a stifling 1-0 win over Cal State Monterey Bay Friday at the Otter Sports Complex. The Golden Eagles managed only nine shots, but one was the first goal of the season for Robin Lindahl in the 32nd minute.

Cal State LA is unbeaten in its last five games (4-0-1) and picked up its seventh shutout of the season. The Golden Eagles were playing their first game since moving into the national rankings at No. 18.

Steve Barrera made two saves for the Golden Eagles for the shutout, while Cal State Monterey Bay (2-9, 1-6 CCAA) got two saves from goalkeeper Jesus Ochoa.

The Golden Eagles got the all-important first goal in the 32nd minute. Steven Eberle sent a pass to Lindahl at the top of the box and he fired a shot past a diving Ochoa for the only score of the game.

David Elizaga had a match-high three shots for the Golden Eagles, while Miguel Galvan Lara had the first two of the game for Cal State LA.

Rigoberto Maciel, Ryan Arkelian, Adrian Diaz and Lindahl had one shot each.

Cal State LA also had a slim 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

Cal State LA will return to action on Sunday with a road match at Cal State East Bay at 11:30 a.m.
