LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's men's basketball team was done in Friday by some frigid shooting.
The Golden Eagles shot just 27.5 percent for the game and missed all 10 of their 3-point attempts in a 46-37 California Collegiate Athletic Association loss to Cal State East Bay in the Eagles Nest. Cal State LA (2-11, 1-5 CCAA) managed only 16 points in the first 20 minutes and only 21 in the second half. Cal State East Bay (6-8, 2-5 CCAA) shot just 34.8 percent, but did enough to earn a big road conference victory.
Geoffrey Frid had 18 points and eight rebounds for the Golden Eagles, while
Dushon Carter and
Jonathan Davis had seven points each.
Jalen Richard led all scorers with 24 points for the Pioneers, while Ryan Okwudibonye had 11 points and four rebounds.
Cal State LA was just 14-of-51 for the game and 0-of-10 from 3-point range. Cal State East Bay was 16-of-46 and just 2-of-20 from 3-point range. Richard was the only player to hit a 3-pointer in the game and he was 2-of-12.
Cal State East Bay had a 38-33 rebounding edge and committed 16 turnovers to 14 for the Golden Eagles.
Cal State East Bay led 20-16 at halftime and then won the game with its defense. Cal State LA didn't score a basket over the final 10:32 of the game.
Cal State LA will return to action on Saturday with a home game against UC San Diego.
