HILO, HI -- Cal State L.A.'s women's volleyball team picked up another impressive victory Friday in the Hilo Naniloa Hawaii Challenge.

The Golden Eagles (7-0) started quickly and never looked back in a 25-14, 25-16, 25-23 victory over previously undefeated Chaminade. Cal State L.A. completed the sweep - its third straight in Hawaii - by overcoming early deficits in the third and final set.
Iona Lofrano led the Golden Eagles with 13 kills, nine digs and three blocks, while
Lauren Gomez had 10 kills.
JamieAnn Bero had seven kills in only nine swings and also had two service aces.
Cal State L.A. had a 46-29 advantage in kills and hit at a .255 percentage to .155 for Chaminade (6-0). The Golden Eagles also had 59 digs in the three sets - led by
Taylor Kushner with 13,
Kelsey Molnar with 12 and
Chloe Clancy with 12. Molnar also had 35 set assists in the match.
The Golden Eagles scored the first two points of the match on a kill by
Angela Thurmond and an ace by Molnar and never trailed in the opening set. The Golden Eagles broke the set open on a kill by Kushner, an attack error, a kill by Bero and a kill by Gomez that gave them a 19-10 lead.
The Golden Eagles also broke open the second set. After leading 15-13, the Golden Eagles extended their lead thanks to kills by Bero and Lofrano and a block by Bero and Molnar. Back-to-back kills by Lofrano and an ace by Bero gave Cal State L.A. a 23-15 lead and the Golden Eagles promptly closed out the set.
Cal State L.A. fell behind by counts of 6-1 and 10-6 in the third set, but battled back to complete the sweep. Kills by Lofrano and Kushner gave the Golden Eagles their first lead of the set at 12-11 and the set stayed close the rest of the way. A kill by Lofrano broke a 22-22 tie and a ball-handling error by Chaminade got the Golden Eagles to match point. Chaminade saved one match point, but a block by Lofrano and Thurmond clinched the contest for the Golden Eagles.
Cal State L.A. will return to action on Saturday with another match against Chaminade at 1 p.m. PST.
