Box Score ARCATA – Cal State L.A.'s women's basketball team did its part Friday night with a big California Collegiate Athletic Association victory at Humboldt State and then waited for late results to determine the site for its first-round California Collegiate Athletic Association Championship Tournament.
When the dust had settled, the Golden Eagles found themselves with a home game on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. against Cal State East Bay.
Cal State L.A. (19-10, 14-8 CCAA) received the No. 4 seed and will face No. 5 Cal State East Bay on Tuesday in the Eagles Nest thanks to an upset win by San Francisco State at UC San Diego and a Chico State win over Cal State Monterey Bay. The Golden Eagles and Pioneers tied for fourth in the conference and split regular-season meetings, but with Chico State earning the No. 1 seed, the Golden Eagles, by virtue of its win in Chico last week, won the tiebreaker over the Pioneers. Cal State East Bay would have won the tiebreaker if UC San Diego had been the top seed.
Tessondra Williams had 22 points to lead the Golden Eagles and finished the regular season as the conference scoring champion. She has averaged 19.1 points in Cal State L.A.'s 29 games to date. The Golden Eagles also got a big boost from
Samantha Hansen, who scored 12 points in eight minutes during the first half while helping Cal State L.A. take a 38-31 halftime lead.
Williams scored 20 of her 22 points in the second half.

Cal State L.A. had 11 players score in the game.
The Golden Eagles shot 50 percent for the game (31-of-62) and took only six 3-pointers, making two of them. Humboldt State shot 42.9 percent (24-of-56) and took 20 shots from behind the 3-point arc, making only five. Cal State L.A. had a 43-26 rebounding edge and won despite committing 24 turnovers, 14 of them in the first half.
Cal State L.A. trailed by four points early, 8-4, but took its first lead after a basket by Hansen put the Golden Eagles ahead, 12-11. Hansen scored eight straight points for the Golden Eagles to help Cal State L.A. open up an 18-12 advantage with 7:57 remaining and the Golden Eagles never looked back.
The Golden Eagles opened up a 10-point lead, 25-15, after a 7-0 run that started with a three-point play by
Paige Melville, and also included a 3-pointer by
Maryum Jenkins and a free throw by
Kaija Powell. Humboldt State sliced the deficit to just two points at 29-27, but the Golden Eagles got a late 3-pointer from
Kelli Lewis to take a 38-31 halftime lead.
The Golden Eagles saw their lead cut to one point after a 6-0 run by Humboldt State to open the second half, but
Richelle Najera scored to stop the run. The Golden Eagles still led by just two points, 44-42, after a 3-pointer by Petty, before going on a game-breaking 11-0 run. A pair of free throws by Williams started the run,
Alyssa Hanson made a layup, Powell scored on a layup after a steal by Williams, Williams converted a three-point play and Hanson scored on another layup to give the Golden Eagles a 55-42 lead with 12:35 remaining.
Humboldt State battled back and got to within three points, 68-65, and 70-67 with 57 seconds left, but Najera scored on a layup with an assist from Melville and Hanson made a steal that led to a layup by Williams that finally put the game out of reach.
