Golden Eagles Fall For Second Straight Match

Box Score SAN FRANCISCO -- Cal State L.A.'s women's volleyball team will be happy to head home after its most recent road trip.

After winning its first six California Collegiate Athletic Association road matches, the Golden Eagles lost for the second straght night away from home in a disappointing 25-15, 25-18, 25-23 loss to San Francisco State. Cal State L.A. (14-9, 9-6 CCAA) was swept in a conference match for just the second time this season.

Iona Lofrano had 12 kills and seven digs for the Golden Eagles, while Kymberly Silveyra had seven kills and 13 digs.

Jaclyn Clark had 11 kills and five blocks, while Meagan Wright added 11 kills.

The Golden Eagles were outhit, .278-.148, and San Francisco State had advantages of 42-35 in kills, 11-4 in blocks and 5-1 in service aces.

Alexandra Bura had 27 set assists, while Colby Joseph had 13 digs.

Cal State L.A. started slowly and never really got into the match. San Francisco State led from start to finish in the opening set, never trailed while winning the second set and then put the match away with a late surge in the third set.

The Golden Eagles dug themselves a 10-4 hole in the opening set and were unable to stop a blistering San Francisco State attack.

In the second set, the frame was tied three times, the final time at 9-9 before San Francisco State scored the next three points and led the rest of the way.

Cal State L.A. took a 5-1 lead in the third set behind some strong serving by Silveyra and still had an 11-7 lead after a block by Loreal Carter and JamieAnn Bero. The Gators, though, caught up and eventually got to match point at 24-22. A kill by Lofrano made it 24-23, but the Gators got the next point to put the match away.

Cal State L.A. will try to regroup in its next match, which is next Friday, Nov. 8 at Cal State East Bay.
