Box Score TURLOCK -- Cal State L.A.'s women's volleyball team kept the good times rolling on the road.
The Golden Eagles won their fourth consecutive California Collegiate Athletic Association road match with a 24-26, 25-12, 25-19, 25-21 in Warrior Arena. Cal State L.A. (10-6, 5-3 CCAA) won for the third time in four matches with the win and improved their conference road record to 4-0.
Iona Lofrano had 16 kills to lead a balanced Cal State L.A. attack that featured four players with double-digit kills.
Kymberly Silveyra had 12 kills and a team-high 17 digs,
Bethanee Boggs had 11 kills and four blocks and
JamieAnn Bero had 11 kills and three blocks.
Cal State L.A. had a 53-44 edge in kills and hit at a .245 percentage while limiting Cal State Stanislaus (4-12, 1-7 CCAA) to just .091 hitting. The Golden Eagles also had an 8.5-3 advantage in blocks.
Blair Ehrlich had 13 kills to lead the Warriors, while Jordan Harris had 10 kills.
Cal State L.A. started slowly, but was able to erase a 22-17 deficit in the opening set and took a 23-22 lead thanks to a strong serving run by
Loreal Carter. The Warriors got their first set point at 24-23, but the Golden Eagles tied it with a block by Bero and
Alexandra Bura. The Warriors, though, captured the final two points to take the set.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a quick 12-3 lead in the second set behind a strong serving run by Boggs. A kill by Lofrano gave the Golden Eagles a 17-5 lead and a block by Lofrano,
Lauren Gomez and Boggs put them ahead, 23-11. A bad set got the Golden Eagles to set point and a kill by Boggs evened the match.
Cal State L.A. slowly pulled away after a hard-fought battle in the third set. The Golden Eagles trailed as late as 14-13 before a Bero kill, a block by Bero and Carter, an ace by Bero an a Cal State Stanislaus gave Cal State L.A. a 17-14 edge. Back-to-back aces by
April Reyes gave the Golden Eagles a 23-18 lead, a kill by Silveyra made it 24-18 and a kill by Silveyra ended the set.
The Golden Eagles took quick control in the fourth set and, with
Shea Hamilton serving, turned a 6-5 deficit into a 10-6 lead. Cal State L.A. led the rest of the way, eventually getting to match point after a kill by Lofrano and ending the contest after a kill by Boggs.
Cal State L.A. will return to action on Friday with a conference match at Chico State.
