Box Score CARSON -- Cal State L.A.'s women's volleyball team came up big in late-set situations last week in a pair of home wins, but that wasn't the case Wednesday night in a California Collegiate Athletic Association match in the Torodome.
The Golden Eagles fell to Cal State Dominguez Hills, 25-23, 25-22, 25-23 Wednesday in three tight sets that tilted the Toros way in each one. Cal State L.A. (5-7, 3-2 CCAA) slipped out of a six-team logjam for second place in the conference, while Cal State Dominguez Hills (6-6, 4-1 CCAA) climbed into sole possession of second after recording its first three-match winning streak since 2004.

Loreal Carter and an attack error. That tied the set at 23-23, but Santos recorded back-to-back kills for the Toros to claim the set.
The Golden Eagles didn't dig themselves as big a hole in the second set, but, once again, it was the Toros who came up big down the stretch. A kill by Mora brought the Golden Eagles to within one point at 23-22, but a Santos kill and a block by Santos and Whitney Lee put the Toros up 2-0.
Cal State L.A. tried unsuccessfully to extend the match in the third set. The Golden Eagles held a 13-10 lead after a kill by
Reanna Hill and had a 14-11 edge after a kill by Mora, but the Toros scored the next four points to erase the deficit. A kill by
Sukhjit Athwal tied it at 18-18, but the Toros responded by scoring the next three points to take the lead for good.
The Golden Eagles fought off three set points after trailing 24-20 on a kill by Silveyra, a block by Mora and Carter and a kill by Mora, but a serve into the net ended the match.
Cal State L.A. will return to action with a home match against San Francisco State on Friday at 7 p.m.
