ROHNERT PARK -- Cal State L.A.'s women's basketball team started quickly and posted a big road win over a recent nemesis.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 13-1 lead and never looked back in a 71-60 victory over Sonoma State Thursday night in the Wolves' Den. Cal State L.A. (14-7, 12-5) moved into third place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, just percentage points behind second-place Cal State Monterey Bay.
The Golden Eagles snapped a two-game losing streak and also put an end to a five-game losing streak to Sonoma State (8-13, 6-11 CCAA).
Cal State L.A. shot 48.1 percent from the floor (25-of-52), while limiting the Seawolves to just 39 percent shooting (21-of-53). The Golden Eagles enjoyed a 35-29 rebounding edge and had just 12 turnovers to 13 for the Seawolves.
Jazzi Johnson led four Golden Eagles in double figures with 21 points to go along with six rebounds.
Tessondra Williams had 15 points,
Lacy Ramon had 13 points and four rebounds and
Alisha Belt, getting her second start of the season, had eight points and six rebounds.
Jaclyn Bisordi and Bronte Sheahan scored 16 points each for the Seawolves.
Cal State L.A. scored the first seven points of the contest and took quick control of the game. Belt got the opening basket, Johnson made a steal and layup and Ramon hit a 3-pointer. After Sonoma State got a free throw, Ramon, Belt and Williams scored baskets to make it 13-1. The Golden Eagles didn't allow a basket for the first seven minutes of the game.

Samantha Hansen gave the Golden Eagles a 21-6 lead, a 3-pointer by
Erika Ruiz made it 26-11 and a late 3-pointer by Ramon gave Cal State L.A. a 37-22 halftime lead.
After their opening surge, the Golden Eagles never led by less than nine points.
Cal State L.A. put any comeback possibilities by the Seawolves to rest early in the second half. Williams hit a pair of 3-pointers and two free throws and Johnson made a basket to help stake the Golden Eagles to a 49-26 lead.
Sonoma State battled back and closed to within nine points, 60-51, with 4:46 left, but that's as close as the Seawolves would get. Johnson hit a layup to make it 62-51, Williams hit two free throws to make it 64-53 with 2:16 to go and four consecutive free throws by Johnson made it 68-55 with one minute to play.
Cal State L.A. will return to action with a road game at Humboldt State on Saturday.
