Box Score ARCATA -- Cal State L.A.'s women's volleyball team made sure it ended its week on a positive note.
The Golden Eagles, coming off their first five-set win of the season, took care of Humboldt State in three sets with a 25-20, 25-13, 25-20 victory Saturday night in The Lumberjack Arena. Cal State L.A. (7-9, 5-4 CCAA) used a balanced attack to win its second straight match away from the Eagles Nest.
Marquis Mora had 10 kills and three blocks to lead the way, while
Kymberly Silveyra added nine kills and
Loreal Carter had eight kills.
Humboldt State (2-14, 0-9 CCAA) got 12 kills each from Alexa Rosendale and Danielle Carlson.
Alexandra Bura had 25 set assists for the Golden Eagles, while
April Reyes and
Samantha Potter led with nine digs each.
The Golden Eagles had a 44-33 edge in kills and a 5-0 advantage in blocks. The Golden Eagles hit at a .287 percentage and limited Humboldt State to a .125 clip. Cal State L.A. also had four aces and four service errors. Mora, Bura, Potter and Reyes picked up the aces for the Golden Eagles.
The opening set was close throughout and tied for the final time at 18-18. A kill by Mora and an ace by Mora put the Golden Eagles ahead for good. A Silveyra kill, a block by
Reanna Hill and Carter and two straight kills by Carter made it 24-19 behind the serving of Bura. A kill by Hill ended the first set.
The Golden Eagles rode the serving of Bura to a quick 4-0 lead in the second set and they never looked back. Cal State L.A. broke the set open with a 6-0 run behind the serving of Potter. A kill by
Sukhjit Athwal started the run, a block by Bura and Mora and an ace by Potter highlighted the run. A Reyes ace got the Golden Eagles to 23-12 and two straight kills by Mora ended the set.
Cal State L.A. jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the final set, but Humboldt State fought back and took an 11-9 lead. The set was tied at 17-17 before a kill by Mora gave the Golden Eagles the lead for good.
Shea Hamilton got a kill to make it 19-17 and two straight kills by Athwal extended the lead to 21-17 and the Golden Eagles never looked back. The match ended on a Humboldt State serving error.
Cal State L.A. will return to action next Friday with another road match at Cal State Stanislaus.
