CARSON -- For the second time this season, Cal State L.A.'s women's basketball team rushed to a big first-half lead against Cal State Dominguez Hills.

This time, the Golden Eagles avoided the second-half drama, leading from start to finish of a 71-43 California Collegiate Athletic Association victory in the Torodome. Cal State L.A. (6-4, 4-2 CCAA) completed its second straight regular-season sweep of the Toros and dealt Cal State Dominguez Hills (1-12, 0-6 CCAA) its sixth straight conference defeat.

In the teams' first meeting in Los Angeles, the Golden Eagles built a 41-16 halftime lead, but then had to withstand a furious Cal State Dominguez Hills rally in the second half that made things uncomfortable down the stretch. The Golden Eagles were an efficient 18-of-21 from the free-throw line. Cal State L.A. held Cal State Dominguez Hills to just 29.8 percent shooting (14-of-47). Eleven players scored for the Golden Eagles.

Amanda Deal, Lorin Hammer and Erika Ruiz scored seven points each, while Alyssa Hanson had six points, two rebounds and three assists.

Johnson scored eight of the Golden Eagles' first nine points in a game-opening 12-2 run that included a three-point play by Tessondra Williams. A 3-pointer by Hammer gave the Golden Eagles a 28-8 lead and a pair of free throws by Hanson pushed the advantage to 30-8 with eight minutes remaining in the half.

Cal State L.A. held a 38-21 lead at halftime and kept that advantage the rest of the way. A 3-pointer by Gibbons and a layup by Johnson extended the lead to 45-23 with 16 minutes remaining, but the Toros responded by scoring the next five points to slice the deficit to 45-28.

Cal State L.A. then went on a 14-2 run to put the game out of reach. Hanson started the run with a basket and that was followed by a pair of free throws by Samantha Hansen. After a Cal State Dominguez Hills basket, Hanson scored a pair of baskets, Ruiz made a pair of layups and Alisha Belt made a basket to stretch the lead to 59-30.

A 3-pointer by Deal gave the Golden Eagles their biggest lead, 71-35.
