Golden Eagles Sweep To Victory Over CS Monterey Bay

LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.'s women's volleyball team jumped out to a big early lead and never let up in its second three-set sweep of the week.
 
The Golden Eagles were clicking on all cylinders and roared past Cal State Monterey Bay, 25-18, 25-11, 25-13 in a California Collegiate Athletic Association match in the Eagles Nest. Cal State L.A. (8-5, 4-2 CCAA) posted its third straight win. The Golden Eagles had opened the week with a three-set win at Cal State Dominguez Hills.
 
Zuzana Cizova led the way with 16 kills and had a hitting percentage of .583. She also added six digs and a block. Gabriela Bulawczyk had eight kills and seven digs and Mary Laupepa had six kills and one block.
 
Rheann Fall had six kills to lead Cal State Monterey Bay (5-8, 1-5 CCAA).
 
Cal State L.A. hit at a sizzling .432 and held Cal State Monterey Bay to a .041 percentage. The Golden Eagles had a 44-19 edge in kills and a 6-0 edge in service aces.
 
Kaylynne De La Rosa had 30 set assists and five digs for the Golden Eagles.
 
The first set was close until the Golden Eagles were able to pull away at the end. The Golden Eagles held just a 17-16 edge until a kill by Chelsea Hamilton, a kill by De La Rosa, a ball-handling error and an attack error boosted the lead to 21-16. A kill by De La Rosa got the Golden Eagles to set point at 24-18 and a kill by Keslie Brown ended the first set.
 
Cal State L.A. stepped up its defensive effort in the second set and held Cal State Monterey Bay to a –.130 in the frame. The Golden Eagles scored the first three points of the set and never looked back. A kill by Cizova started a set-ending 8-1 run for the Golden Eagles. A kill by Marquis Mora ended the set.
 
Cal State L.A. also jumped out to a big early lead in the third set. The Golden Eagles scored the first four points of the set and, after Cal State Monterey Bay got as close as 9-7, extended their lead to 20-11 with an 11-4 spurt that included four kills by Cizova. Back-to-back aces by Stefanie Gay got the Golden Eagles to match point at 24-13 and an attack error by the Otters ended the match.
 
Cal State L.A. will return to action with a home match on Saturday against San Francisco State.
