CARSON -- Cal State L.A.'s women's volleyball team wasted little time posting its second California Collegiate Athletic Association road victory in three tries.
The Golden Eagles rolled to a big first-set triumph and never let up in a 25-8, 25-18, 25-16 victory Tuesday night in the Torodome. Cal State L.A. (7-5, 3-2 CCAA) won its second straight match since its disappointing five-set loss to UC San Diego last Friday.
Gabriela Bulawczyk had 13 kills and seven digs to lead the Golden Eagles, while
Mary Laupepa had seven kills and three blocks and
Zuzana Cizova had seven kills, seven digs and two service aces.
Cal State Dominguez Hills (1-11, 1-4 CCAA) got seven kills from Madison Horsley.
Cal State L.A. hit at a .380 percentage, while Cal State Dominguez Hills hit at just .011. The Golden Eagles had a 39-19 edge in kills and a 4-1 advantage in blocks. The Golden Eagles had five service aces and eight service errors, while the Toros had five aces and 10 service errors.
Kaylynne De La Rosa had 22 set assists and four kills, while Cizova, De La Rosa and Bulawczyk led with seven digs each.
Cal State L.A. broke out to an early 19-5 lead in the first set and never let up. With the score 22-8, a kill by Laupepa and two kills by Bulawczyk ended the frame.
Cal State Dominguez Hills scored the first three points of the second set, but Cal State L.A. recovered and used a 5-0 run built on a kill by Cizova, two Toro attack errors and two kills by Bulawczyk to turn an 8-5 deficit into a 10-8 lead.
Cal State L.A. steadily extended its lead and ultimately captured the set on a Cal State Dominguez Hills service error.
The Golden Eagles scored the first four points of the final set and never looked back. A kill by
Chelsea Hamilton, a kill by Cizova and an ace by Laupepa gave Cal State L.A. an 8-3 lead and the Golden Eagles led comfortably the rest of the way. Cal State L.A. enjoyed its biggest lead at 20-9 and, after the Toros cut it to 22-16, the Golden Eagles closed out the match with a service error, a kill by Bulawczyk and an ace by Cizova.
Cal State L.A. will return to action on Friday with a home match against Cal State Monterey Bay.
