No. 22 Golden Eagles Roll To A Seventh Straight Victory

HAYWARD – Cal State L.A.'s women's volleyball team made its first conference trip to California Collegiate Athletic Association newcomer Cal State East Bay a successful one.
 
The Golden Eagles won their seventh straight match with a 25-20, 25-20, 25-12 victory over the Pioneers Wednesday night in Pioneer Gym. Cal State L.A. (16-6, 12-3 CCAA) remains in third place in the conference after winning for the 11th time in its last 12 matches. The Golden Eagles completed a season sweep of Cal State East Bay (7-15, 5-9 CCAA).
 
Chelsea Hamilton had a match-high 13 kills to lead the way, while Marquis Mora had nine kills and one block and Gabriela Bulawczyk had eight kills and a team-high 16 digs.
 
Brianna Bryant had six kills for Cal State East Bay.
 
Kaylynne De La Rosa had 31 set assists, nine digs and two kills, while Zuzana Cizova had seven kills and 13 digs
 
Cal State L.A., ranked 22nd in the nation, hit at a .202 percentage and limited Cal State East Bay to just .018 hitting. The Golden Eagles had a big 42-22 edge in kills.
 
Cal State East Bay got off to a promising start and held a 13-11 lead in the first set. A service error, two attack errors and a kill by Hamilton put the Golden Eagles ahead, 15-13, and they never trailed again. Cal State L.A. led by as many as five points, saw Cal State East Bay close to within 22-19, and then put the set away on kills by Mora, De La Rosa and Bulawczyk.
 
The Golden Eagles led nearly the entire way in the second set. After trailing, 7-6, the Golden Eagles got two kills by Cizova, a service ace from Hamilton and a kill by Mora as part of a 4-0 run that gave them the lead for good. Cal State L.A. led by as much as 19-12 after a kill by Hamilton and eventually closed out the set on a kill by Bulawczyk and a service ace by De La Rosa.
 
Cal State L.A. jumped out to a quick 15-4 lead in the final set to close things out. The Golden Eagles led, 21-9, after a kill by Hamilton, got to match point behind the serving of Kassie Faulkner and then finished the match after a Cal State East Bay serving error.
 
The Golden Eagles will return to action on Friday with a match at No. 2 UC San Diego in La Jolla.
