Golden Eagles Keep CCAA Tourney Bid In Sight

LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.'s women's soccer team posted its program-record 10th win of the season Friday and kept its postseason aspirations alive in the process.

The Golden Eagles won their third straight game, posting a 2-1 win over San Francisco State Friday night at Jesse Owens Track. Cal State L.A. (10-5-1, 7-4-1) pulled to within two points of third-place Cal State Dominguez Hills and one point of fourth-place Cal State Stanislaus in the chase for the final two spots in the conference tournament. The Golden Eagles have two games remaining, while Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State Stanislaus have one game left.

The Golden Eagles had won nine games in each of the previous three seasons and eclipsed that mark with the win on Friday.

Cal State L.A. got goals from Amber de Seriere and Christine Buenrostro to edge the Gators (9-6-1, 6-5-1). San Francisco State got its goal from Alex Emanuel.

The Golden Eagles had a 10-1 advantage in shots in the first half while jumping out to a 2-0 lead against a San Francisco State team that had posted three consecutive shutouts. San Francisco State applied more pressure in the second half and had a 4-1 edge in shots.

The Golden Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute when Sarah Le lofted a shot just over San Francisco State goalie Emily Hart. The ball clanked off the crossbar, but de Seriere was there to head the ball into the net for her third goal of the season.

Cal State L.A. got its second goal 11 minutes later. Erica Thomas took a shot off a nice pass from Erika Prado that was deflected, but Buenrostro got to the ball first and shot it into the right corner of an empty net. It was Buenrostro's first goal of the season. Prado and Thomas picked up assists.

The Gators made things interesting late in the game. San Francisco State got its goal in the 75th minute when Emanuel was able to flick a shot into the right corner of the net. Myriah Johnson picked up the assist.

Reyna Coca made two saves for the Golden Eagles, while Hart made four saves for the Gators.

Cal State L.A. will play its final home game of the season on Sunday and honor Vanessa Suarez, Megan Stevenson, Ana Valverde, Karly Huerta, Coca, Prado and de Seriere. Cal State L.A. will conclude its regular season on Monday at Cal State San Bernardino.
