Cal State LA Athletics

2020: Was on the roster, but team did not compete due to COVID-19 in his final year with the program. Was also on the track and field roster (2021), but team did not compete due to COVID-19.

2019: Was on Cal State LA’s cross country roster, but did not compete in any meets and was a redshirt. Was also on Cal State LA’s track and field roster, but did not compete in any meets in the shortened season (2020).

2018: Joined Cal State LA’s cross country program in the fall and was a top newcomer. Competed in six events and was consistently among the team’s top five. Finished 80^th in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships with a time of 29:26.2 over 8,000 meters and was 160^th in the NCAA Division II West Regionals with a time of 36:32.5 over 10,000 meters. Had a good first season with the Golden Eagles’ track and field team in the spring (2019). Placed 18^th in the 1,500 at the CCAA Championships and had a season’s best time of 4:18.51. Also had best times of 2:04.94 in the 800 and 9:50.28 in the 3,000.

At Cathedral High School: Received the President’s Award for a 4.0 grade point average or above four times and the Principal’s Award for a 3.5 grade point average or above two times. Was the Most Improved Runner on the 2017 team and was his junior varsity team’s Most Inspirational Runner in 2016. Team won the CIF Southern Section and California State cross country championships. Reached the CIF prelims in the 800 meters in track and field.

Personal: Son of Ludwing and Lizzette Mendez. Majoring in criminal justice. Enjoys eating and sleeping. Lists competing in the NCAA Division II Cross Country Regionals as his most exciting experience in sports.
