Summary

Biography

2019: Competed in two races for the Golden Eagles in his final year with the cross country program. Had a best time of 29:51.1 over 8,000 meters while finishing 83rd at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Oct. 12. Earned a 2019 California Collegiate Athletic Association Fall All-Academic Award.

2018: Did not compete in cross country in the fall due to injury. Returned to run for Cal State LA’s track and field team in the spring (2019). Had best times of 9:55.05 in the 3,000 meters, 17:32.53 in the 5,000 and 36:03.30 in the 10,000. Earned a 2018-19 CCAA All-Academic Award.

2017: Was Cal State LA’s No. 1 runner in cross country. Finished 62nd in the CCAA Championships with a time of 26:56.7 over 8,000 meters. Finished 155th in the NCAA Division II West Regional with a time of 33:52.9 over 10,000 meters.

At Pasadena City College: Was a two-time qualifier for the state championships in cross country and a Southern California qualifier in the 10,000 meters. Team took third place in conference. Received a Scholar Baller award for academic work.

At Salesian High School: Competed in cross country, basketball, track and field and volleyball. Earned first-team All-League honors twice and team won a CIF cross country championship and took third place in the state championships twice. Was a member of the National Honors Society and a part of the Student Council and Salesian Lettermen Society. Was the Salesian Track Athlete of the Year.

Personal: Son of Michael and Bertha Guzman. Majoring in sociology. Enjoys playing video games, running, long walks, social media, sleeping, spending time with family and spending time with his girlfriend. Lists running on the University of Oregon track and meeting Michael Cooper as his most exciting experiences in sports. Notes a quote from Amby Burfoot: “Running has taught me, perhaps more than anything else, that there’s no reason to fear starting lines … or other new beginnings.”
