HAYWARD -- Cal State LA split two tightly contested opening sets before Cal State East Bay pulled away for a four-set victory Friday at Pioneer Gymnasium.
The Pioneers won by scores of 27-25, 24-26, 25-16 and 25-9. Cal State LA moved to 3-7 overall and 2-1 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play, while Cal State East Bay improved to 3-6 overall and 2-1 in conference action.
The first two sets featured 12 ties and 10 lead changes. Cal State East Bay prevailed in the opening set, 27-25, before the Golden Eagles responded with a 26-24 victory in the second.
Cal State LA recorded 10 kills in the second set and took advantage of 12 East Bay attacking errors to even the match.
The Pioneers found their offensive rhythm following the intermission. East Bay recorded 14 kills and hit .333 in the third set before producing 15 kills with only three errors and a .400 hitting percentage in the fourth.
Samarah DaCoud led Cal State LA with 10 kills and completed a double-double with 13 digs. She also contributed one service ace and a block assist.
Amber Walker added seven kills and recorded two solo blocks. Isabella Barrios provided an efficient performance with five kills on 13 attacks without committing an error, finishing with a team-best .385 hitting percentage. She also added two block assists.
Naomi Jackson recorded three kills on four attacks for a .750 hitting percentage. Anaiya Cooper contributed three kills, while Finley Charapata and Ginger Boyle added two kills apiece.
Juliana Speiski led the Golden Eagles defensively with 16 digs and two service aces. Ruby Ennis distributed a team-high 10 assists and collected seven digs, while McKinley Chase added nine assists. Seriah Demski finished with six assists, six digs and one ace.
Cal State LA finished with 34 kills, five service aces, five total blocks and 64 digs.
Lamona Lauhingoa led Cal State East Bay with 22 kills and 19 digs. The Pioneers recorded 54 kills, seven aces and nine total blocks while hitting .188 for the match.
The Golden Eagles return to action Saturday against San Francisco State at 5 p.m.
