Golden Eagles Earn No. 8 Seed To West Regional

INDIANAPOLIS -- Cal State LA's women's golf team, coming off a second-place finish at the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships earlier this week, has earned its third straight trip to the NCAA West Regional.

The field for the NCAA field was announced on Sunday and the Golden Eagles received the No. 8 seed. The Golden Eagles are one of 18 teams in the West Regional that will be hosted by Colorado State-Pueblo at the Pueblo Country Club on May 4-6. The top five teams in the three-day, 54-hole tourney, will qualify for the NCAA Championships that will be held May 12-16 at the PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

Cal State LA was one of four CCAA teams to qualify for the regional. Cal State San Marcos is the No. 3 seed, Cal State Monterey Bay is the 11th seed and Cal State East Bay is the No. 12 seed..

Dallas Baptist is the No. 1 seed and is followed by the University of Texas, Tyler, Cal State San Marcos, St. Mary's, Colorado State-Pueblo, West Texas A&M, Midwestern State, Cal State LA, Simon Fraser and Point Loma in the top-10. Cal State Monterey Bay, Cal State East Bay, Angelo State, Lubbock Christian, Texas A&M International, Westmont, Colorado Christian and Hawaii Hilo are also in the field.

Six individuals -- Ashley Lam of Westminster (Utah), Lauren F. Lee of Western Washington, Orraya Jan Tipasathien of Montana State Billings, Maria Jose Savoca of Cameron, Theresa Shaw of Vanguard and Neige Dunn of Metro State - are also in the tournament.

In addition to five teams advancing, the top two individuals from non-advancing teams will also go to nationals.

Cal State LA is coming off a second straight second-place finish at the CCAA Championships earlier this week in Stockton. Joshlyn Ayala finished third in the tournament and earned All-Tournament honors for a second straight season. Rilee Crosby finished in a tie for eighth to give the Golden Eagles two golfers in the top-10. Sarah Amaya finished 12th and Talia Gutman and Daniela Andrade finished in a tie for 14th.

Cal State LA finished in a tie for sixth in last year's West Regional.
