Golden Eagles Conclude Weekend In Boston

BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS -- Cal State LA's women's track and field team had some more positive performances on Saturday at the Boston UniversityDavid Hemery Valentine Invitational.

Kailea Satterwhite had another great performance and set a new personal best with a mark of 54-6 in the weight throw that earned her a seventh-place finish.
The mark is No. 2 all-time and just a little more than two inches off the program record of 54-8.25 set by Kirran Moss in 1998.

"This weekend in Boston was for sure one for the books! I came to this meet with no expectations at all but to trust in God. My mindset was to just get out there and throw," Satterwhite said. "Since we did already compete the day before I was not expecting a lot. My team and coach's presence really helped pump me up. Coach Sarg and Sinaiah also really helped keep my energy up after every throw. This meet was one of the best I've had. Now it's time to move to outdoor and I can't wait!"

Sinaiah Pointer had another strong effort in the shot put, placing 12th in an elite field with a mark of 43-4.25.

Kaliesha Bell had the team's top performance in the 60 with a mark of 7.91, Emmerson Wiggins had the best mark in the 200 at 25.21 and Dalia Romo had the top 400 time at 58.22. In addition, the 4x400 relay team of Wiggins, Romo, Georgia Gaylor and Jewel Perry ran a season's best mark of 3:54.84.

Cal State LA will now set its sights on the outdoor season, which begins next week with the Cal State LA Invitational.

"Traveling to Boston was a great experience and an amazing way to close out the indoor track and field season. It was nerve-racking stepping onto the Boston track since there was so much to take in. For the 400, I was in one of the last heats, which only added to my anxiousness," Romo said. "My pep talk throughout the moment was, 'Pain is temporary — you need to start becoming comfortable with being uncomfortable.' We prepare for these events during practice, and if I've put in the work and tested my limits, then these moments are where I get to see that effort pay off. I'm excited to work hard this outdoor season.

Said Wiggins: "I was excited to compete at Boston University today. It was my first time running the 200 meters without blocks, and I performed well, finishing with a time of 25.2 seconds. I trusted my coaches' guidance, and it paid off in my performance."

Said Coach Tina Fernandes: "Our two-day experience at Boston University demonstrated our ongoing improvements. We had a few more individuals secure positions in our indoor top 10 record book: Dalia Romo in the 400m, Emmerson in the 200m and our 4X400 relay team. The team rallied around our throwing events, witnessing the fight and confidence of both Sinaiah Pointer and Kailea Satterwhite.  Kailea competed in the first flight of the weight throw and earned her shot in the finals."

"I believe this was an excellent competition was a great opportunity for our team to travel and compete. These competitions have instilled a strong desire for more, along with the determination to continue working hard to improve and learn from each event. We are very eager to see what the 2026 season will bring."
