Golden Eagles Improve Their Marks In Washington

SPOKANE, WASH. -- Cal State LA's women's track and field team competed in its second indoor meet of the season on Saturday in a competition hosted by Whitworth University.

The Golden Eagles set several personal bests in the 2026 Inland Northwest Invitational at the Podium and had several impressive performances on Saturday.

"Our focus is on development and competing.  We have a young team with a sprinkle of experience," Cal State LA coach Tina Fernandes said. "Everyone is still learning, so we are excited to see improvements with each event. Our throwers shined together bring back two indoor PR's. We seemed comfortable competing and trying to motivate each other to do the best job each meet we compete in.  We are very excited to see continued improvements in the near future.

Cal State LA's 4x400 relay team of Emmerson Wiggins, Dalia Romo, Jewel Perry and Jaylin Morgan was third for the top Golden Eagle finish. Cecille Lightbourn was fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 34-9.75 and Samiya Stevens was sixth with a mark of 33-7.50.

Kailea Satterwhite was fourth in the weight throw with a mark of 51-7, which was her personal best. Sinaiah Pointer was sixth in the shot put with a mark of 42-11, which is her personal best.

Satterwhite's throw is No. 7 all-time for Cal State LA, beating her previous best mark of 51-1.50, while Pointer jumped up to No. 7 in the shot put, beating her previous best of 41-3.75 that was No. 9 all-time.

This meet was definitely a much-needed confidence booster for me," Pointer said. "After scratching out at the Reno meet, coming back and placing sixth with an indoor PR feels really good. I trust Coach Sarigiannis and he kept reminding me of the small technical things that will make the difference. I'm so grateful and can't wait to see what my senior year will hold."

Said Satterwhite: "Coming out this week, I really wanted to go out and show my talent in the weight throw. I felt a lot of emotions and pressure to do well since this is my second meet back from redshirting last season. My coaches and teammate Sinaiah played a big role in my PR. I am confident that this is a small step in a long journey."

Keidyn Liu had the team's best mark in the 60 in a season's best of 8.02 and Wiggins had the top 200-meter time of 25.70, which is her season's best. Jewel Perry had the top 400-meter time with a mark of 59.91.

"I had a great experience competing alongside my teammates," Perry said. "With each race I try to instill everything my coaches teach me. As I'm competing, I'm excited grow and learn as my indoor season continues.".

Cal State LA will return to action on Feb. 13 at the Harvard Crimson Open.
