RENO, NEVADA -- Cal State LA's women's track and field team had some more positive marks on Saturday on the second and final day of the Nevada Invitational.

The Golden Eagles competed in four events on Saturday to conclude their first indoor meet of the season.

Cecille Lightbourn had the best individual finish, placing 16th in the triple jump with a mark of 35-3.25. 

The Golden Eagles' 4x400 relay team of Emmerson Wiggins, Dalia Romo, Jewel Perry and Jaylin Morgan finished 10th with a time of 3:59.02.

Wiggins had the fastest time for the Golden Eagles in the 200 after finishing 32nd overall with a time of 25.75 and Perry had the fastest 400 time while finishing 24th with a time of 59.50.

We are thrilled about the start of our season. Our team is youthful and led by a strong leader, Sinaiah Pointer," Cal State LA head coach Tina Fernandes said. "Competing indoors presents a distinct experience due to the dimensions of the facility and track. Our team performed admirably and adapted well to the challenges of competing in a new environment. We are beginning this season with a strong team and will continue our efforts to foster further development. This group is exceptional, and as we grow together, we anticipate a remarkable season ahead."

Said Wiggins: "I was very excited to compete in Reno. At first, I felt very nervous going into my races, but I soon realized that I was just in my own head. I had to remind myself to get out of my head and simply run. Throughout my training and competition, my coaches supported me and believed in my ability, which helped me gain confidence and perform at my best.

Said Perry: "After my race, I felt that I competed well and trusted everything my coaches have advised in order to execute my race well. I'm thankful for having supportive teammates and watching them excel as well."
 
Cal State LA will return to action on Jan. 31 at the Inland Northwest Invitational at Whitworth University.
