"The track and field season has commenced. In 2026, we are youthful and eager to excel," Cal State LA men's and women's track and field coach
Tina Fernandes said. ".On our first indoor day, we demonstrated significant improvements and experienced several first-time moments. In addition to our exceptional coaches, we benefit from strong leadership provided by
Sinaiah Pointer and our returning athletes. Our season began with great enthusiasm as we witnessed
Kailea Satterwhite perform remarkably well after sitting out last semester. Kailea has been performing impressively in practice, and it is only a matter of time before she executes that significant throw we all know she is capable of achieving.
Â
"In the jumps category, we are observing excellent progress among our two sophomores. They are exhibiting substantial improvement and dedicating considerable effort. Both athletes have shown technical advancements that will aid in their development into the outstanding jumpers they are becoming with each practice and competition.
Â
"The sprints category also presented a promising start. This is a remarkable young and talented group of young women, and I am thrilled to coach them and witness each stage of their development as they continue to improve and embrace a strong work ethic."
Said Lightbourn: "I completed my first event of the year today and I did not blow my season opener out of the water as I was expecting to, but it felt good to start to get back into the groove again. I enjoyed this meet and this track last year and this facility has not let me down this year either. My coaches have all been very supportive of me and Coach
Sean Fernandes especially has been the most positive influence on my journey to a PR. I've had a great time watching my teammates compete and I've been getting along with them very well even thought the majority of this indoor group are freshman and transfers."
Said Bell: "Stepping into my first-ever indoor meet, I gave it my all, fueled by my coaches' guidance and my teammates' encouragement and support."
The two-day meet will conclude on Saturday.
