Five Golden Eagles Earn Academic All-District Honors

LOS ANGELES -- Five members of Cal State LA's women's golf team have been named to the 2025 CSC Academic All-District Women's At Large Team, selected by the district's College Sports Communicators, the organization announced on Tuesday.

Morgan Sjoerdsma, who is already a three-time Academic All-American, earned Academic All-District honors for the fourth time, Harley Richardson and Joshlyn Ayala both received the honors for the second time and sophomores Daniela Andrade and Sarah Amaya earned the honors for the first time.

The awards honor student-athletes for their combined performances in their field of competition and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program (formerly known as the CoSIDA Academic All-America program) recognizes honorees in four divisions - NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

To be considered for the honor in golf, a student-athlete must have participated in 70 percent of the team's scoring events or be in the lineup at a conference championship tournament and carry at least a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 at his/her current institution. No student-athlete is eligible until he/she is at least a sophomore academically and athletically.

The women's At-Large teams include student-athletes from the sports of golf, beach volleyball, bowling, crew-rowing, fencing, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing and water polo.

Sjoerdsma completed her remarkable Cal State LA career with another outstanding.season. She had five top-10 finishes, including a second-place finish at the LA Invitational and a third-place finish in the Swan Memorial. She also tied for 10th at the NCAA West Regional and was 16th in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships. Sjoerdsma had a scoring average of 75.32.

Sjoerdsma earned first-team All-CCAA honors for a fourth straight season and was ranked 94th in the final national individual rankings. She finished her career with three wins, two runner-up finishes, seven top-three finishes, 14 top-five finishes and 19 top-10 finishes.

Richardson had her best season with the Golden Eagles in her third year with the team. She competed in nine of Cal State LA's 11 tournaments and had a scoring average of 77.39. She had her best finish with a third-place showing at the Sonoma State Spring Invitational and she also played well with a tie for 16th place at the CCAA Championships.

Ayala also had her best season with the Golden Eagles in her third year with the program. She earned first-team All-CCAA honors for the first time and she also earned CCAA All-Tournament honors with a third-place finish at the CCAA Championships, where she shot the low round of the tournament on the final day. Ayala had the lowest scoring average on the team with a 74.88 average that was the best of her career.

Andrade had her second straight strong season for the Golden Eagles, highlighted by the second win of her career at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Classic after rounds of 70-69. She had the second-best scoring average on the team with a 75.18 average. Andrade played well down the stretch and was sixth at the CCAA Championships and 10th in the NCAA West Regional.

Amaya had her best season yet with the Golden Eagles and played in seven of the 11 tournaments, including both conference and regional championships. She had her best individual finish with a third-place finish at the Sonoma State Spring Invite and she helped the Golden Eagles to a second-place finish at the CCAA Championships with an impressive sixth-place finish that was second on the team.

The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2023-24 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs.

The At-Large Academic All-America teams will be announced on July 8.
