Golden Eagles Set To Laugh It Up In Hollywood

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's men's soccer program is set for a fun-filled evening in April featuring an impressive roster of comics at the iconic Hollywood Improv.

The Golden Eagles are holding a major fundraiser in the Main Room of the famed comedy club on April 27 at 7 p.m. featuring headliner Maz Jobrani and several other top comics. All proceeds from the event will go to the Cal State LA men's soccer program, which has earned its spot as one of the top programs in the country.

The comedy show will be the topper on a big weekend for the men's soccer program. Cal State LA will also be hosting its annual alumni game on the grass field on campus on Saturday, April 26, at 5 p.m. To sign up for the alumni game, CLICK HERE.

Jobrani is a regular performer at the top comedy clubs in the country and is currently on a tour that includes stops in Irvine, Philadelphia, Seattle, Sacramento, Austin, Texas, and San Francisco.

The evening is billed as Maz Jobrani and Friends and his comedy pals include Gary Cannon, Kira Soltanovich, Chris Spencer, Owen Smith and Ian Bagg with even more comics to be announced.

While the Golden Eagles and their faithful will be enjoying some good laughs on April 27, they take very seriously their status as one of the top soccer programs in the country.

And that success is no joke.

The Golden Eagles won the 2021 NCAA Division II championship and are in the midst of the best run in program history. Cal State LA has been the best team in the West Region in four of the past five seasons, including the national title in 2021, a national runner-up finish in 2019, a Super Region 4 championship match appearance in 2023 and a playoff run in 2024 that included a second-round playoff win over local rival Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Cal State LA finished 11th in the country in the final United Soccer Coaches poll, marking the fourth time in the past five seasons the Golden Eagles have finished in the top 11 nationally. In addition, Cal State LA has won 10 or more games in 13 straight seasons and have posted 18 straight winning seasons.

In three seasons with Michael Erush as the head coach, the Golden Eagles are 45-6-12. Combined with former head coach Chris Chamides, the Golden Eagles are 97-11-18 over the past six seasons.  During that stretch, Cal State LA has won one national championship, two Super Region four titles, three CCAA regular-season and four CCAA Tournament titles.

Doors for the event will open at 6:30 p.m. and tickets can be purchased on the Hollywood Improv website at hollywoodimprov.com. For more information, contact Cal State LA men's soccer assistant coach Erick Lemus at elemus21@calstatela.edu.
