FULLERTON -- Cal State LA's baseball team dropped the finale of a four-game series against Regis on Sunday.
The Golden Eagles rallied to slice a 6-0 deficit to 6-4, but Regis got two more runs in the eighth and held off the Golden Eagles, 8-4, at Cal State Fullerton's Goodwin Stadium. Cal State LA (3-7) won the opener of the series on Friday, but Regis (8-7) took the next three.
The Golden Eagles collected 12 hits in the game, but also stranded 12 runners.
Carson Panarisi had a run-scoring triple in the seventh inning and scored on a single by
Javy Espinoza to pull the Golden Eagles to within 6-4, but Regis' Mark McCandless entered the game with the tying runs on base and got out of the jam.Â
Regis added two runs in the eighth to account for the final margin.

Gilbert Morales and
Isaiah Marquez had two hits each for the Golden Eagles.
Regis had nine hits in the game, including big home runs from Maxim Fullerton and Adam Paniagua. Fullerton opened the scoring with a two-run home run down the left-field line just two batters into the game, while Paniagua delivered a two-run home run as part of a four-run fifth inning for the Rangers. The Golden Eagles recorded the first two outs of the inning, but after Fullerton reached on an infield error, Paniagua hit the two-run home run and Jack Moulin and Mattias Sessing had run-scoring singles to make it 6-0.
Alejandro Morales came on in relief, walked the first two batters he faced to load the bases and then got a strikeout to get out of the inning.
Cal State LA got a run in the fifth on a run-scoring single by Morales and then made it 6-2 in the sixth on a run-scoring groundout by Kaydn Victorian. Panarisi and Espinoza drove in runs in the seventh to make it 6-4, but that's as close as the Golden Eagles would get.Â
Lino Zepeda started and went 4 2/3 innings for the Golden Eagles, allowing two earned runs with one walk and six strikeouts. Morales allowed two hits and two runs over the next 3 1/3 innings and
Atticus Gonzalez tossed a scoreless ninth inning. Nick Jacobs went the first 4 1/3 innings for the Rangers;, allowing four hits and one run. Colter Wilson allowed two hits over one inning to get the win. McCandless got the final seven outs with three strikeouts to earn the save.
Cal State LA will open California Collegiate Athletic Association play next Friday against Cal State San Marcos
