NORTHRIDGE -- Cal State LA's beach volleyball team picked up its first win of the season and split a pair of matches Saturday at CSUN.

The Golden Eagles pulled out a 3-2 win over Hope International in their first match of the day before falling to the hosts, 5-0, in their second contest.

The team of Zuhal Cetin and Tehya Chadwick won their third match in the past two days with a 21-18, 18-21, 15-10 win at No. 3 pairs. Samarah DaCoud and Jameson Sanders won at No. 2 pairs, 21-12, 23-21 and Rebecca Topete and Rebeca Marquez prevailed at No. 4 pairs, 21-17, 21-18. The No. 1 pairs team of Emily Elliott and Juliana Speiski played three sets for a third straight match and were edged by Addie Mathias and Sabrina Galassi, 16-21, 21-16, 15-12 and the No. 5 pairs team of Arielle Chandler and Karina Talavera dropped a 21-10, 21-11 decision.

The Golden Eagles had the same lineup against CSUN and put up a battle, but ultimately fell in straight sets in all five contests.

Cal State LA will return to action next Friday with matches against Vanguard and Life Pacific in Huntington Beach.
