SANTA CLARITA -- Cal State LA's beach volleyball team opened its 2025 season with a pair of competitive matches at The Master's.

The Golden Eagles fell to Southern Oregon, 3-2, in their early afternoon match and then dropped a 4-1 decision to the host Mustangs. Zuhal Cetin and Tehya Chadwick went 2-0 in their matches at No. 3 pairs to higlight the day for Cal State LA.

The Golden Eagles opening match against Southern Oregon was extremely close with three of the five duals going to a deciding third set. Cetin and Chadwick were victorious in straight sets at No. 3 pairs, 21-7, 21-15 over Kendal Hadwick and Lucretia Benolken and Rebecca Topete and Rebeca Marquez won a three-set battle at No. 4 pairs over Skyy Bothelo and Dessa Soures, 21-19, 10-21, 15-11.

Emily Elliott and Juliana Speiski lost a heartbreaker at No. 1 pairs, falling in three sets to Tessa Zimmerman and Madi Gray, 22-20, 19-21, 15-13 in the match of the day. Arielle Chandler and Karina Talavera fell to Vitoria Mattos and Natalie Perez, 17-21, 21-13, 15-7 at No. 5 pairs in another three-set battle.

In their second match, the Golden Eagles fell to host The Master's. Cetin and Chadwick picked up the lone point for the Golden Eagles with as 21-19, 21-13 win at No. 3 pairs to complete their perfect day.

Cal State LA will return to action with two more matches on Saturday at CSUN.
