LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's men's basketball team was firing on all cylinders on Friday in a California Collegiate Athletic Association win over San Francisco State.
The Golden Eagles shot 56.9 percent and hit 15 3-pointers in a 101-57 win over the Gators in University Gym. Cal State LA (3-6, 2-1 CCAA) won its second straight game for the first time this season.
Michael Pearson Jr. led a balanced scoring attack that featured five players reach double figures and all 10 players who got playing time score at least four points. Cal State LA reached 100 points for the first time since a 100-72 win over Bethesda on Nov. 18, 2021 and scored its most points in a game for the first time since a 123-61 win over Bethesda on Dec. 7, 2018.
It marked the first Cal State LA has reached 100 points since a 101-99 win over Cal State San Marcos on Feb. 25, ,2017.
Khemanni Davis had 15 points and seven assists for the Golden Eagles, while
Donovan Vickers had 13 points and five rebounds,
Connor Scales had 12 points and five rebounds and
Deraje Agbaosi had 10 points, six rebounds and three blocks.
Milandev Chatha had an 11-point, 10-rebound double-double for the Gators (1-9, 0-3 CCAA), while Miles Pollard and Bricen Buciak also scored 11 points each.
Jordan Hansen had nine points for the Golden Eagles, while
Sam Ibeh had eight points and four rebounds and
Isaiah Fields had seven points and four rebounds.
Cal State LA shot 56.9 percent from the floor (37-of-65) and was 15-of-32 from 3-point range. The Golden Eagles were 12-of-19 from the free-throw line. San Francisco State shot 32.3 percent (20-of-62) and was 4-of-19 from 3-point range. The Gators were 13-of-25 from the free-throw line. San Francisco State had a 44-37 rebounding edge, while Cal State LA committed 11 turnovers to 19 for the Gators.
Cal State LA scored the first nine points of the game on a pair of layups by Agbaosi, a 3-pointer by Fields and a layup by Davis and never looked back. San Francisco State scored the next seven points to pull within two, but a 3-pointer by Vickers and a pair of dunks by Agbaosi opened the lead back to 16-7.
Another 3-pointer by Davis was followed by back-to-back 3-pointers from Vickers that built the lead to 25-8. Cal State LA led by as many as 26 points in the first half before settling for a 52-28 halftime lead.
Cal State LA continued its offensive surge in the second half and was 7-of-14 from 3-point range in the final 20 minutes. The Golden Eagles never led by less than 20 points and led by as many as 52 points in the second period.
Cal State LA will return to action on Sunday with a home game against Cal State East Bay at 3 p.m.
