LOS ANGELES – Cal State LA's women's volleyball team has been ranked No. 9 in the official NCAA Division II West Region poll released by the NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Committee on Wednesday.
The Golden Eagles, currently tied for second in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, are seeking a seventh straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. Cal State LA (17-6) has won two of the past three NCAA West Region championships and captured the 2023 NCAA Division II Championship.
Cal State LA ended a long playoff drought in 2018 when the Golden Eagles reached the tournament for the first time since 2010.
Point Loma (21-2) is ranked No. 1 in the poll with Fresno Pacific (22-0) at No. 2. Alaska Anchorage (19-5) is No. 3, Alaska Fairbanks (20-4)) is No. 4, Simon Fraser (17-4) is No. 5, Western Washington (18-4) is No. 6, Central Washington (16-5) is No. 7, Cal Poly Pomona (18-4) is No. 8, Cal State LA (17-6) is No. 9 and Hawaii-Hilo (19-8) is No. 10.
Each of the three conferences in the West Region has an automatic bid and the next five at-large teams will qualify for the NCAA Division II playoffs. The CCAA gives its automatic bid to the winner of the conference tournament, which will be held at Stanislaus State on Nov. 20-22.
Cal State LA will host Stanislaus State on Friday at 5 p.m. on Senior Night and then travel to Cal State San Bernardino for the regular season finale on Saturday at 5 p.m. The Golden Eagles have already clinched a spot in the conference tournament and the winner of Saturday's match will clinch a first-round bye.
The final published West Region poll will be released next Wednesday with the official tournament field being announced on Monday, Nov. 24.
