Golden Eagles Complete 2024 Season On Senior Day

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's baseball team completed its 2024 season on an emotional Senior Day before Saturday's series finale with Stanislaus State.

After ceremonies honoring their 15 seniors, the Golden Eagles dropped the season finale to the Warriors, 14-9, in another exciting day at Reeder Field. Cal State LA (23-27, 17-23 CCAA) finished the season seventh in the CCAA, just two games out of a CCAA Tournament spot. The top six teams in the conference advanced to the tournament, which will be held next week at Cal Poly Pomona.

Cal State LA's resiliency was in full affect in Saturday's finale. After falling behind 10-1 in the fourth inning, the Golden Eagles pulled to within 10-9 in the seventh inning before the Warriors (19-27-1, 15-23 CCAA) tacked on four runs in the top of the eighth to record the victory.

Daniel Quintero, one of 15 seniors honored before the game, allowed one run in the first inning and took the loss. He was followed to the mound by Troy Maki, Michael Gill, Miles Halligan, Anthony Diaz, Moises Escobedo, Joel Martinez and Kai Penuelas.

Maki pitched a scoreless second inning, Escobedo retired the only two batters he faced in the fifth inning, Martinez had a three-inning stretch and Penuelas tossed a scoreless ninth inning for the Golden Eagles.

Kody Cardoza went 5 1/3 innings to pick up the win, while Trent Huff, Noah Chelberg and Quinn Oliver finished up.

Isaiah Marquez hit his 10th home run of the season, a three-run shot as part of a four-run rally that pulled the Golden Eagles to within 10-5. Elijah Jackson also hit a home run, his seventh of the season, to make it 10-6 in the sixth.

Anthony Angel Jr. singled in a run and Andrew Duran had a two-run double in the seventh to get the Golden Eagles to within 10-9.

Marquez had four RBI in the game, while Duran was 2-for-5 with two RBI. Andrew Tovar and Brayan Nunez had two hits each.

Before the game, the Golden Eagles honored seniors Andrew Duran, Daniel Quintero, Miles Halligan, Dorsey Chatham, Elijah Jackson, Michael Gill, Troy Maki, Andrew Tovar, Javy Espinoza, Art Ruiz, Eric Navarrete, Anthony Angel Jr., Brent Jacques, Matthew Piotrowski and Owen Hunt as part of Senior Day.
