SANTA CLARITA -- Cal State LA's beach volleyball now has itself a winning streak after picking up a big victory on Saturday.
The Golden Eagles won their second straight match, edging The Master's, 3-2, at the TMU Beach Volleyball Courts. Cal State LA (2-6) trailed 2-1, but got victories from its No. 1 pairs team of
Emily Elliott and
Ashley Dittmann and No. 5 pairs team of
Juliana Speiski and
Rebecca Topete to win the match.
Cal State LA picked up its first victory last week against Westcliff and is being rewarded for the tremendous improvement that has been made during the season.
The final two matches on Saturday were decided in three tight sets.
Elliott and Dittmann prevailed in the longest contest of the day, 24-22, 13-21, 18-16, over The Master's top pair of Evi Yates and Annika Booker to even the match at 2-2.
Speiski and Topete also won the first set and then edged Ellie Unruh and Emma Winter at No. 5 pairs, 21-17, 14-21, 15-13 to win the match for the Golden Eagles.
Cal State LA also got a straight-sets win from
Samarah DaCoud and
Jameson Sanders at No. 4 pairs over Violet Avila and Ashlyn Unryh, 22-20, 21-17.
Shelby Grubbs and
Haley Roundtree were involved in a tight decision at No. 2 pairs before falling to Faith Wada and Zoe Yates, 21-19, 24-22 and
Zuhal Cetin and
Tehya Chadwick fell at No. 3 pairs, 21-12, 21-12, to Breanna Brooks and Isabella Rodriguez, 21-12, 21-12.
Cal State LA will return to action on Wednesday, April 10, at Cal State Northridge.
