IRVINE -- Cal State LA's beach volleyball team was able to enjoy the thrill of victory in the sand for the first time in quite awhile on Friday.

The Golden Eagles edged Westcliff, 3-2, for their first win of the season. In fact, it was Cal State LA's first victory over a four-year program in beach volleyball since April 16, 2022 and the squad, many of whom were on Cal State LA's national championship roster, celebrated.

Cal State LA (1-6) picked up wins at the No. 1, 3 and 4 pairs to post the team victory. Ashley Dittmann and Emily Elliott rallied for a hard-fought 14-21, 21-19, 18-16 over Brooke Scheidle and Marcella Rodriguez at No. 1 pairs, Zuhal Cetin and Tehya Chadwick beat Izzy Dunchaine and Serena Comer in straight sets, 21-15, 21-16 at No. 3 pairs and, in the match of the day, Samara DaCoud and Jameson Sanders edged Ava Himstreet and Amanda Ferrera at No. 4 pairs, 21-19, 21-23, 18-16.

In a third three-set match, Haley Roundtree and Matalasi Danielson fell to Diamond Brogan and Sabrina Galassi at No. 2 pairs, 21-17, 15-21, 15-8. Juliana Speiski and Rebecca Topete fell in a competitive match at No. 5 pairs, 21-14, 21-17, to Chloe Johnson and Faith Webb.

In their first match of the day, Cal State LA fell to Concordia, 5-0.

Cal State LA will return to action on Saturday, March 23 in matches against Hope International and The Master's.
