SAN DIEGO -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team made the trip to San Diego on Thursday, one day after its match against Point Loma was postponed by rain.
The Golden Eagles battled admirably, coming close to taking the double point, before falling in all six singles contests in a 7-0 loss to the Sea Lions at the PLNU Tennis Courts. Cal State LA (1-5) dropped its fifth straight match after a season-opening win over Westmont, while Point Loma (2-2) evened its record that includes a win over defending PacWest Conference champion Azusa Pacific.
The doubles point went right down to the wire before Point Loma prevailed.
Sarah Olmos and
Sakura Kurokawa fell at No. 1 doubles to Thelma Sepulveda and Arianna Audelo, 7-5, while
Rochelle Suarez and
Courtlyn Lam fell to Anna Pallencaoe and Jazlyn Miyamura at No. 3 doubles, 6-4.Â
Alexandra Hincu and
Hideka Takamura fell at No. 2 doubles, 6-1, to Amanda Letzrig and Quin Brady.
Olmos fell at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-2, to Sepulveda, Takamura fell at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-4, to Letzring, Kurokawa fell at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-1, to Audelo, Hincu fell at No. 4 singles to Brady, 6-3, 6-1, Suarez fell at No. 5 singles to Pallencaoe, 6-3, 6-1 and
Summer Roybal fell at No. 6 singles to Melissa Zirkle, 6-4, 6-2.
Cal State LA will return to action on Saturday with a home match against UC Irvine at 11 a.m.
