AZUSA -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team had a tough day against PacWest Conference favorite Azusa Pacific on Tuesday.
The Golden Eagles fell short in the doubles point and all six singles contests and fell to the Cougars, 7-0, at the Munson and Bavougian Tennis Complex. Cal State LA (1-2) dropped its second straight match since opening the season with a win at Westmont, while Azusa Pacific (3-1) won its second straight contest since a loss at Point Loma.
The Golden Eagles fell in all three doubles contests.
Sarah Olmos and
Sakura Kurokawa fell to Madison Kane and Miruna Tudor, 6-0, at No. 1 singles,
Hideka Takamura and
Alexandra Hincu fell at No. 2 doubles to Vini Bautista and Julia Jordan, 6-1, and
Courtlyn Lam and
Rochelle Suarez fell at No. 3 doubles, 6-3, to Shannele Lopez and Katherine Nguyen.
All six singles contests were decided in straight sets. Olmos fell to Kane at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-3, Takamura fell at No. 2 singles to Jordan, 6-1, 6-2, Kurokawa fell at No. 3 singles to Bautista, 6-3, 6-4, Hincu fell at No. 4 singles to Tudor, 6-4, 6-1, Suarez fell at No. 5 singles to Nguyen, 6-1, 6-1 and
Lea Rolland fell at No. 6 singles to Lopez, 6-0, 6-0.
Cal State LA will return to action with a match at Concordia on Saturday at 11 a.m. The Golden Eagles are scheduled to be back home on Sunday for an 11 a.m. match against Dominican.
