LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team had a tough result Saturday in its home opener against Pomona-Pitzer.
The Sagehens, the No. 3-ranked team in the nation for NCAA Division III, took the doubles point and then added the first four singles matches off the court to beat the Golden Eagles, 5-0, at the Cal State LA Tennis Complex. Cal State LA (1-1) was originally supposed to open its home schedule on Tuesday against Biola, but that match was postponed by rain.
Cal State LA dropped all three doubles contests with
Alexandra Hincu and
Hideka Takamura having the closest set, falling, 6-4, to Samantha Moore-Thomson and Alex Coleman at No. 2 doubles.
Sarah Olmos and
Sakura Kurokawa fell at No. 1 doubles, 6-0, to Nyakiriri Kanefu and Angie Zhou and
Courtlyn Lam and
Rochelle Suarez fell at No. 3 doubles to Amelia Poor and Marissa Markey, 6-0.
In singles, Olmos fell to Zhou at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-2, Hincu fell at No. 3 singles to Leticia Bazau-Vanquez, 6-1, 6-0, Rolland fell to Coleman at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-1 and
Summer Roybal fell to Samantha Moore-Thomson, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 6 singles.
Takamura's match at No. 2 singles and Suarez's match at No. 4 singles went unfinished.
Cal State LA will return to action with a match at Azusa Pacific on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
